“You Look Prettier in Real Life.” Zing.
Five minutes ago in my quick run to the Chelsea Whole Foods, I was approached by someone who reads my blog. He said “I knew it was you but I must say you look so much prettier in real life.” Zing.
Obviously I’d rather look better in the flesh than in a photo, but I still can’t help but feel offended. I know I’m not photogenic… but clearly I have to work on knowing how to look more like the real me in photographs.
I wanted to yell at him that this isn’t match.com, so I’m not selecting this single photo to represent who I am. It is so much more messy than that. Yet I recognize that I am opening myself up to criticism. We all do by blogging.
Ugh. I don’t even know why this is bothering me.
Sarah, I’ve had lots of people tell me this too, especially people who watched me on TV every day. And I used to think “Jesus H, I spend an hour every day in a makeup chair and I still look like crap through a lens?” But it’s definitely a compliment. Anyone can suck in and contort and work angles and use lighting to create a beautiful image, but actually being attractive in real life? Effortless! And way better.

Things like this are why I respect Justin Timberlake so much. He’s having fun and doesn’t mind making fun of himself. Overall, he seems like a cool dude who you could just grab a beer with.

LoveLikeFire - “William”
This San Francisco four-piece is definitely worth checking out. Their fuzzy, alt-pop songs compliment singer Ann Yu’s ethereal voice, which soars within this song while the band gradually builds behind her. If you’re from the San Francisco area, I think you’d really enjoy watching this video…there are some cool animated shots of the city.
They’ve recently released their digital EP William this past March via UK label Heist or Hit Records, which is available on iTunes. The band is set to release their first full length album, Tear Ourselves Away in the UK this August.
Made me a little weepy. Visually beautiful and sad.
